Flatbread Company and Ben and Jerry’s Partner For Cause

CANTON, Conn. The Flatbread Company and Ben and Jerry’s ice cream, both located at The Shoppes at Farmington Valley in Canton, Conn., are teaming up with the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, its 2007 Travelers MS Walk and Team Maureen on Tuesday, April 3, for the biggest pizza party in the state.

The Flatbread Company will donate to Team Maureen $3.50 for every large flatbread sold pizza and $1.75 for every small pizza sold, including take-out, after 5 p.m. on April 3.

For a sweet treat afterward, visitors with an event coupon can walk a few doors down to Ben and Jerry’s ice cream, and 20 percent of all proceeds will benefit Team Maureen. Event coupons are available in the newsroom at www.ctfightsMS.org.

“Here at the Flatbread Company, we strongly believe in neighbors helping neighbors,” said Brian Bienvenue, Flatbread Company managing partner. “We support local agriculture, area businesses and raise money for local non-profit charities through our benefit nights, held every Tuesday.

Team Maureen

Team Maureen is named after longtime Simsbury resident Maureen Jessen, who, in 2001, was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS). Team Maureen is ranked as the Most Money Raised team participating at the Simsbury walk site, raising more than $10,000 in 2006. Since it’s inception in 2002, Team Maureen has raised more than $25,000 to fight MS.

"I am so impressed and inspired by the participation from our community for this event,” said Jessen. “I am so pleased that Ben and Jerry's has partnered with the Flatbread Company this year to help make this event even bigger than before!"

Jessen’s teenage daughter, Erica, recently put out an e-mail invitation on Facebook.com to rally participants for the event. To view the invitation, visit www.facebook.com and type in keywords, “Inspiring a cure for MS.”

More than 6,000 Connecticut residents, like Jessen, live with the effects of multiple sclerosis, a potentially debilitating disease affecting the central nervous system. The cause is unknown and there currently is no cure for MS. Funds raised through chapter events, such as the 2007 Travelers MS Walk, presented by UnitedHealth Group, ensure ongoing scientific research to find a cure and the continuation of vital programs and services offered by the Greater Connecticut Chapter to Connecticut residents diagnosed with MS.

To receive a Ben and Jerry’s event coupon, or to join Team Maureen at the Simsbury Travelers MS Walk, please e-mail Maureen Jessen at mjessen3@comcast.net.
