Women Gone Wild Scores More Than $2,500 To Fight MS

COLEBROOK, Conn. — They came, they went wild and, in the end, women from across the state raised more than $2,500 in the fight against multiple sclerosis.

Women Gone Wild is a program for women interested in learning more about the outdoor sporting life. The 91 women who participated in this year’s event took in classes on fishing, hiking, tracking, archery, trap shooting, emergency first aid and more. The $2,870 raised at the event benefits the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Connecticut Chapter and the more than 6,000 Connecticut residents who live with the devastating effects of MS.

“The MS Society is an organization that’s close to my heart,” said Jennifer Zordan, organizer of the June 1 event.

The 38-year-old resident of Torrington, Conn., was diagnosed with MS in 2000 — six weeks before her wedding.

“Multiple sclerosis affects everybody in one way or another, and I want to help fight back,” said Zordan.

More than 6,000 Connecticut residents, like Zordan, live with multiple sclerosis, a chronic and often disabling disease of the central nervous system. There currently is no cure. Symptoms can include, among other things, numbness in the limbs, difficulties with vision and speech, stiffness and, in some more severe cases, total paralysis. The progress, severity, and specific symptoms of MS in any one person cannot be predicted.

Next year’s Women Gone Wild event is scheduled for Sunday, June 7, 2009. The event will once again be hosted by Northwest Connecticut Sportsmen's Association on the NWCSA’s 90-acre grounds in Colebrook, Conn.

Funds raised through events such as Women Gone Wild allow the Connecticut Chapter to provide vital programs and services to those affected by multiple sclerosis. Funds also support groundbreaking research to find better treatments and a cure.
