Raccio Named 2008 MS Corporate Achiever

CHESHIRE, Conn. — The National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Connecticut Chapter has named Jennifer Raccio, a former teacher in the North Haven school system, a 2008 MS Corporate Achiever — one of the only 18 leaders within the New Haven region to be so named.

Raccio. JenniferA resident of Cheshire, Conn., Raccio received her Bachelor of science/political science degree from Providence College, Providence, R.I. in 1997 and received her master’s in science/elementary education from University of New Haven, West Haven, Conn., in 1999.

“A close family member was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2001,” said Raccio. “Since then, my family has been very active in helping raise money for a cure. By raising money, we will be able to help contribute scientific research and one day find a cure.”

Raccio is member of Cheshire Newcomers and Neighbors and Director of Ways and Means, where she participated in planning the annual Taste of Cheshire Benefit Auction. Raccio also volunteers at the Annual Kids Fair, and helps organize activities for families who are new to the Cheshire area.

Established by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Connecticut Chapter in 2000, MS Corporate Achievers is a recognition program honoring some of Connecticut’s most influential leaders while at the same time raising critically needed funds to ensure ongoing scientific research and the continuation of vital programs and services offered by the chapter to the more than 6,000 Connecticut residents diagnosed with MS. Honorees are nominated by their peers and selected by an advisory council board for making outstanding contributions to business, civic and cultural enrichment.

Through participation, honorees join an elite leadership network sharing a commitment to making Connecticut a better place in which to live. Since 2000  honorees have raised nearly $550,000 to help end the devastating effects of multiple sclerosis.

“Ms. Raccio is truly an effective leader throughout her community,” said Lisa Gerrol, Connecticut Chapter president and chief professional officer. “She is committed to raising funds in the fight against MS and devoted to elevating life within the New Haven region, her hometown of Cheshire and even the state.”
