Preston Promoted To Associate Vice President of Development

HARTFORD, Conn. - The National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Connecticut Chapter has promoted Kara L. Preston, formerly director of development, to associate vice president of development.

A native of Lebanon, N.H., and now a resident of New Britain, Conn., Preston received her Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Fordham University in New York City in 1997.

Preston joined the National MS Society, Connecticut Chapter in 2004 serving as development manager. Later that same year, Preston was promoted to director of communications and in 2006 she was promoted to director of development.

“This newest promotion is in recognition of Ms. Preston’s six years of accomplishments and success in special events, public relations and development with the National Multiple Sclerosis Society,” stated Lisa Gerrol, Connecticut Chapter president. “Ms. Preston has demonstrated tremendous dedication to the fight against MS and has helped make a difference in the lives of families throughout Connecticut affected by multiple sclerosis.” 

Preston was affiliated with the National MS Society, New York Chapter from 2002 to 2004, where she served as development manager and was responsible for the recruitment and training of all chapter volunteers, including 1,000 mass market and 400 special events volunteers. From 1999 to 2002 Preston was affiliated with the March of Dimes Connecticut Chapter, serving as community director. Her responsibilities included organizing six annual fundraising events, representing 20 percent of the chapter’s annual fundraising.

In her new position, Preston will continue to oversee leadership events, including the MS Connecticut Citizen of the Year Gala, to be held at Mohegan Sun Saturday, May 31; Women Against MS (WAMS) luncheons, to be held this year Friday, June 6, in New Haven and in Plantsville on Friday, Oct. 17; the chapter’s MS Corporate Achievers Recognition Program, an annual wine tasting event and many others.
