Cyclists To Pedal Up To 100 Miles For A Cure

WINDSOR, Conn. — The National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Connecticut Chapter is gearing up to host the 27th annual Bike MS: bkm/Steelcase Ride, Sunday, June 1, at Griffin Center in Windsor, Conn.

Cyclists select from two-, 10-, 25-, 50- or 100-mile routes. WTNH News Channel 8 Good Morning Connecticut anchor Darren Kramer will again serve as grand marshal for the event.

Bike Windsor
Glastonbury resident Evan Flaschen crosses the finish line at the Bike MS: bkm/Steelcase Ride at Griffen Center, Windsor, last year. Flaschen was named the event’s 2007 top fundraiser, raising more than $42,000. The event approximately 550 cyclists and raised more than $300,000.
This year participants can also choose from two dates to ride for a cure. A second Bike MS: bkm/Steelcase Ride will take place Sunday, June 22, starting and finishing at Sherwood Island in Westport, Conn.

More than 6,000 Connecticut residents are affected by multiple sclerosis (MS), a potentially debilitating disease affecting the central nervous system. The cause is unknown and, as a result, there is currently no cure for MS. Connecticut residents can help end the devastating effects of MS. The 2007 Windsor ride raised a record-breaking $301,000 and attracted approximately 550 cyclists. The chapter hopes to raise $645,000 this year between the two rides.

Funds raised through participation in chapter events, such as the Bike MS: bkm/Steelcase Ride, ensure ongoing scientific research to find a cure and provide for the continuation of vital programs and services offered by the chapter to those in Connecticut affected by MS.
