Glastonbury Man Honored As Outstanding Programs Volunteer

GLASTONBURY, Conn. — David Robinson was named Outstanding Programs Volunteer recently at the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Connecticut Chapter Awards Ceremony and Annual Meeting.

Since 2003 Robinson, a Glastonbury, Conn. resident, has been dedicated to helping the chapter record an audiotape for two chapter publications, MSConnection and Momentum (formerly InsideMS). Each issue of MSConnection and Momentum is recorded for clients who have visual disabilities.

Paul Blawie, David RobinsonMSConnection is a quarterly newsletter published by the Connecticut Chapter, featuring up-to-date information on local programs and services, events and other chapter news.

Momentum is a bi-monthly lifestyle magazine for people with multiple sclerosis, their families, and healthcare professionals. It's packed with news and features on symptom management, daily living, research, financial and employment issues, travel, achievements, and book and video reviews.

"Because of the dedication of volunteers like David Robinson clients are able to have access to up-to-date information on current events, lifestyle issues and break-throughs in MS treatment," says Lynette Coleman, associate vice president of programs and services for the Connecticut Chapter.

More than 6,000 Connecticut residents live with multiple sclerosis, a chronic and often disabling disease of the central nervous system. There currently is no cure. Symptoms can include, among other things, numbness in the limbs, difficulties with speech, stiffness and, in some more severe cases, total paralysis. The progress, severity and specific symptoms of MS in any one person cannot be predicted.

Chapter president Lisa Gerrol handed out 17 awards at the annual meeting, which took place March 2 at the Hartford Marriott Rocky Hill. Joyce Nelson, president and CEO of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society gave the keynote speech.
