Outstanding Hartford Attorney Honored As Outstanding Chapter Board Member

HARTFORD, Conn. — Jennifer L. Cox has received the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Connecticut Chapter’s Outstanding Chapter Board Member award. Cox, a resident of Guilford, accepted the honor earlier this month at the chapter’s Awards Ceremony and Annual Meeting. Chapter president Lisa Gerrol handed out 17 awards at the annual meeting, which took place at the Hartford Marriot Rocky Hill March 2. Joyce Nelson, president and CEO of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, gave the keynote speech.

Cox is a partner with the Cox & Osowiecki, LLC law office based in Hartford, Conn.

Outstanding Chapter Board MembersIn October 2007 the Western Connecticut Chapter united with the Greater Connecticut Chapter to create one chapter to serve the needs of people in Connecticut affected by MS. Cox, and fellow board member Janet Pierpont, were key contributors in the creation of the unified Connecticut Chapter.

“By consolidating operations, we are able to leverage more local resources and expand programs and services for people living with MS and their families throughout Connecticut,” said Cox, Connecticut Chapter Board of Trustees chairperson.

More than 6,000 Connecticut residents live with multiple sclerosis, a chronic and often disabling disease of the central nervous system. There currently is no cure. Symptoms can include, among other things, numbness and tingling in the limbs, difficulties with vision and speech, stiffness and, in some more severe cases, total paralysis. The progress, severity and specific symptoms of MS in any one person cannot be predicted.

Cox has served as an officer of the Board of Trustees for several years, and has provided support to numerous chapter fundraising events including the MS Walk, Women Against MS Luncheons, MS Golf Classic, Corporate Achievers, Gala MS Connecticut Citizen of the Year and A Taste of Hope wine-tasting event.
