HARTFORD, Conn. The National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Greater Connecticut Chapter, formerly located in Newington, re-located in January to the North Campus of Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Hartford, Conn. The chapter plans to open its doors to the surrounding communities and beyond, hosting an Open House and ribbon cutting on Thursday, June 28, from 4 to 7 p.m. The public is invited to attend but asked to confirm attendance.

The open house includes a photography exhibit, featuring chapter event photographs captured by MS Ambassador and spokesperson John LeBlanc. LeBlanc, 54, the married father of four and grandfather of six, began volunteering with the chapter in 2005 when he photographed its MS Walk event in West Hartford, Conn. LeBlanc was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) in 2003 after suffering optic neuritis and temporarily losing his vision. When his sight returned, he devoted himself to capturing and preserving life in action. LeBlanc has since established Creative Captures of Connecticut, a Web-based service specializing in wildlife photography and Greater Connecticut Chapter event photography. LeBlanc photographs the chapter’s walk, bike, motorcycle, golf and Women Against MS (WAMS) events. In March, he was named the 2006 Volunteer of the Year.

Distinguished guests expected to attend include state representative James A. Amann, Hartford Mayor Eddie Perez and Christopher M. Dadlez, Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center president and chief executive officer.

“The Greater Connecticut Chapter has experienced incredible growth over the past five years,” said Lisa Gerrol, Greater Connecticut Chapter president. “Our new location provides the facilities needed to better serve those depending on us most. We are delighted to open our doors to chapter family members, friends, partners and the new community in which we reside.”

The National MS Society, Greater Connecticut Chapter has undergone several changes over the past year to include the move from Newington to Hartford, a new Web address (ctfightsMS.org) and new brand platform involving a re-design of the national logo, exchanging its former red color for warm orange and black. The new brand platform was made possible through Wieden+Kennedy, an award-winning design agency with offices worldwide. The new branding will also be on display.

Light hors d’oeuvres will be served. Those planning to attend should RSVP no later than June 14 by e-mail to info@ctfightsMS.org or by phone at (860) 714-2300, ext. 228. For more information, please call (860) 714-2300.
