Local Spirits Shoppe to Sponsor Ale Tasting Event

CHESHIRE, Conn. The month of March is a fitting time for gathering with friends, singing an Irish limerick and raising a pint even more so if it’s in support of longtime Cheshire resident Jenifer Walsh and her high profile walk team, Team Jenifer.

The second annual Beer Tasting Party, sponsored by Cheshire Wine & Spirits, will be held at Cugino’s Pizza & Restaurant on Friday, March 23, from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Admission is $20 per person. Beer connoisseurs and novices alike will sample from more than 25 micro breweries and imports. Proceeds will benefit “Team Jenifer” and the 2007 Travelers MS Walk, which will, for Cheshire, start and finish at the Cheshire High School on Sunday, April 22.

Walsh, 42, was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis nine years ago. Since her initial diagnosis, she and her family have worked tirelessly to galvanize friends and relatives to help raise awareness and critically-needed funds to find a cure for the disease. Today, Walsh’s team is ranked among the top ten fundraising teams in the state, with 205 members participating last year.

More than 6,000 Connecticut residents, like Walsh, live with the effects of multiple sclerosis, a disease affecting the central nervous system. The cause is unknown and there currently is no cure. Funds raised through chapter events, such as the 2007 Travelers MS Walk, presented this year by UnitedHealth Group, ensure ongoing scientific research to find a cure and the continuation of vital programs and services offered by the Greater Connecticut Chapter to residents diagnosed with MS.

“I want people to know that although the effects of MS can be a debilitating for some, we strive to live as normal lives as is possible,” said Jenifer Walsh. “There are good days and bad for most us, but we remain positive and upbeat, which helps us get through the toughest of days. We are eager to have a cure for our disease. It will only happen when communities, like Cheshire, rally to raise funds to support the fight against this disease.”

Last year’s beer tasting event raised more than $3,500. Cugino’s Pizza & Restaurant is located at located at 1410 Highland Ave., in Cheshire, Conn.  The event will also feature music, hors d’oeuvres, raffles and a silent auction featuring coveted memorabilia from the Red Sox, Yankees, Mets, Patriots, Giants and Jets. Tickets can be purchased in advance by contacting Jenifer Walsh at (203) 271-1332 or by e-mail at teamjenifer@aol.com. The 2007 Travelers MS Walk will be held at eight sites across Connecticut on Sunday, April 22, and at a ninth site, Woodstock, on Sunday, April 29.
