Second Annual Tasting Attracts More Than 400 And Raises More Than $7,000!

CHESHIRE, Conn. Raising a pint never meant so much than from those raised Friday, March 23, in support of Team Jenifer. The second annual Beer Tasting Party, sponsored by Cheshire Wine & Spirits, and held at Cugino’s Pizza & Restaurant in Cheshire, Conn., attracted more than 400 ale lovers, some coming from as far north as Vernon, Conn., and as far south as New Haven, Conn. The increasingly popular tasting raised $7,500, more than doubling the $3,500 raised last year.

#40“The show of support for this event and Team Jenifer is tremendous,” said Vernon resident and Cardio Express gym owner and operator Peter Rusconi, who himself was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) in 2004. “When friends, family and co-workers come together in support of a single cause, change happens. If we are to find a cure, it will take everyone.”

Beer connoisseurs and novices alike sampled from more than 25 micro breweries and imports. Proceeds benefit Team Jenifer and the 2007 Travelers MS Walk, presented by UnitedHealth Group. Walsh, 42, was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis nine years ago. Since her initial diagnosis, she and her family have worked tirelessly to galvanize friends and relatives to help raise awareness and critically-needed funds to find a cure for the disease. Today, Walsh’s team is ranked among the top ten fundraising teams in the state, with 205 members participating last year.#26

More than 6,000 Connecticut residents, like Walsh, live with the effects of multiple sclerosis, a disease affecting the central nervous system. The cause is unknown and there currently is no cure. Funds raised through chapter events, such as the MS Walk, ensure ongoing scientific research to find a cure and provide for vital programs and services offered by the Greater Connecticut Chapter to residents diagnosed with MS.

“I am amazed at how popular this event has become,” said volunteer photographer John LeBlanc, diagnosed with MS in 2003. “There are times when the effects of our disease can seem insurmountable. It’s uplifting to see so many come out for a good time and a great cause. Support such as that seen here tonight offers hope for a future void of multiple sclerosis.”#23
