Indoor Bike Tour Gears Despite Frigid Temperatures

HARTFORD, Conn. Taking Care Center, a state-of-the-art fitness center located in Hartford, Conn., and Travelers Bike Club are teaming up to host the 5th Annual Indoor Bike Tour on Saturday, Feb. 24, from 9 a.m. to noon. Proceeds will benefit the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Greater Connecticut Chapter.

More than 6,000 Connecticut residents battle the effects of multiple sclerosis (MS) daily.  Multiple sclerosis is a chronic, often disabling disease. It's generally diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 50. Symptoms can range from numbness in the limbs, loss of vision and, in severe cases, complete paralysis. The progression, severity, and specific symptoms related to MS in any one person cannot be predicted. Funds raised through events, such as the Indoor Bike Tour, ensure ongoing scientific research to find a cure and the continuation of vital programs and services offered by the chapter for those in the state affected by multiple sclerosis.Spinning

“We’re pleased to offer this special tour to the community,” said Donna Davis, who is affiliated with Travelers, whose parent company is St. Paul Travelers, and who has participated in the MS Bike Tour for several years raising thousands of dollars to help in the fight against MS. “Multiple sclerosis is oftentimes debilitating. MS stops people from moving. It’s important that others join the movement because it’s easy to take it for granted.”

The Indoor Bike Tour will take place at the Taking Care Center on spinning bikes. The event will be led by a certified cycling coach. Participants set their own pace and pedal from one to three hours. The event is open to members and non-members. The fee to ride is $25 for one hour, $35 for two hours and $45 for three hours. The tour features refreshments and prizes. The event will also feature a raffle for all participants who register on event day for the 2007 bkm/Steelcase MS Bike Tour to be held in Windsor, Conn. on June 3.

Taking Care Center is located at 90 State House Square next to the Old State House in downtown Hartford, Conn. Parking is available in the State House Square garage on the left of Market Street. Parking meters and outdoor lots are also located nearby.
