Golfers To Tee Off Against MS Monday, Oct. 20!

NORTH STONINGTON, Conn. Last year 32 foursomes teed off against MS, raising more than $139,000 to benefit the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Connecticut Chapter and the more than 6,000 Connecticut residents living with the unpredictable effects of MS.

The 2008 Golf MS Classic will be once again held at the picturesque Lake of Isles in North Stonington, Conn., on Monday, Oct. 20. The fourth  annual event, presented by Dominion and hosted by the National MS Society, Connecticut Chapter, is expected to attract golf enthusiasts from throughout the state as well as sports celebrities Gerry Cooney, former heavyweight contender, and Rod Gilbert, former right wing for the New York Rangers.

“This year’s classic is very exciting,” said Mark Powers, planning committee co-chair. “For the first golfer landing a hole-in-one, we’re giving a three-night stay at St. Andrews in Scotland. Anyone who golf knows this is an extraordinary prize. The day will be filled with many surprises and astonishing gifts and prizes.”

Chaired by Jack O’Dea, Strategic Worldwide, LLC, and Mark Powers, of Levin, Powers, Brennan, & Shea, the classic features a day of shamble-style golf on a Rees Jones-designed course. The classic is followed by a cocktail reception, dinner and an auction which includes the chance for a foursome to play at Trump National Golf Club in Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.

More than 6,000 Connecticut residents live with MS. Symptoms can include tingling and numbness in the extremities, fatigue, changes in vision, imbalance, pain, speech impairment, and, in some cases, paralysis. There is currently no cure for MS. However, funds raised through chapter events, such as the Golf MS Classic, ensure ongoing scientific research to find a cure. Funds also provide for the continuation of vital programs and services offered by the chapter to those in the state diagnosed with MS.

There is a pre-event drawing for an overnight stay at a Foxwoods Resort and Casino luxury villa.
